Jim Carter '72
Jim Carter is a 1972 graduate of Westminster College with a degree in geology. He went on to earn a master’s in geology and a law degree. In his career he served as the city attorney for Park City, Utah, the director of the Utah Division of oil, gas and mining, and then went on to start an urban planning company. He and his partner sold that company, and Jim is currently the regional manager for Logan Simpson Design, a community and environmental planning consulting firm. Jim manages local government planning and land-use regulations projects, environmental studies, and the development of resource management plans. The skills Jim learned at Westminster prepared him to make changes through out his career. Writing and communication skills that were emphasized during his Westminster education were crucial while practicing law and are even more important now. Jim feels a strong sense of social responsibility and global consciousness as his career has focused on land use and environmental issues.
