About Cid Seidelman

James E. “Cid” Seidelman, Ph.D., is Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. Reporting directly to the president, the provost coordinates and supports the full range of opportunities for student learning. The provost provides leadership for all academic schools and divisions of the college, other key educational resources of the college including student development, information technology, and institutional research. He is also responsible for the implementation and tracking of the college’s strategic plan and the facilitation of a campus culture that is innovative, inclusive and collaborative.

Beginning his career with Westminster in 1980 as an Assistant Professor of Economics, Dr. Seidelman became Director of the Economics Program in 1981, and later was appointed as Director of the MBA Program where he guided the graduate program through a critical change from a Master of Management to a Master of Business Administration format.

He became Dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business in 1990 and reorganized the school into a team-based approach to curricular development and assessment. During his 13 years as Dean, Dr. Seidelman initiated several new academic programs, built new networks of funding support and led the school through professional accreditation. He also coordinated the planning and fundraising of an $8 million expansion to the business building, creating the Gore Center for Business, Aviation, and Entrepreneurship. Additional accomplishments include the planning, fundraising and implementation of the college’s $7.5 million Flight Operations Center. Known as a strategic thinker and consensus builder, Dr. Seidelman has gained the respect and trust of Westminster stakeholders.

Dr. Seidelman serves as Chairman of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of CIT Bank. He also serves on the boards of Arnold Machinery Company and the Utah Foundation. In addition to a number of consulting and expert witness engagements, Dr. Seidelman’s academic research has focused on international trade issues, trade agreements and development economics.

Dr. Seidelman is a native of Illinois, and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Eastern Illinois University and moved to Utah to work and complete his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Utah. He resides in Park City with his lovely and patient wife Jeanette and has two daughters Lauren and Anna.
