Students exploring the water in the Great Salt Lake Website
Great Salt Lake Institute

Great Salt Lake (GSL) is a unique, understudied, and underestimated national landmark. As one of the extreme ecosystems of the world, where life is tested at its limits, GSL provides new territory for exploration, learning and stewardship. We invite you to join with us in our quest to understand the lake and all that it offers.

Great Salt Lake Instiute was pleased to host Motoi Yamamoto as he created one of his mezmerizing saltworks in our very own Meldrum Science Center at Westminster College! Click here for more information.

On April 12th, we, along with students and community members, swept up the saltworks and brought the salt to Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty for a ceremonial return to the "Sea." Click here for more information.

This summer GSLI will partner with the Natural History Museum of Utah for an exciting, week-long summer camp experience, where participants will have a chance to do field work at the Lake, as well as lab work here at Westminster! To learn more click here, or visit the NHMU website.
