Amanda McIntyre, Communication major.
My background is primarily constructed of artistic creativity: painting, photography, drawing, jewelry smithing and graphic design. I love experimenting with different subject matter such as portraits, landscapes and abstractions. I discovered my passion for creativity when I was 4-years-old but didn’t flourish my talent until I was a junior in high school. As a senior in high school I was awarded Sterling Scholar in visual arts and was given a full-ride scholarship to Westminster in the major of my choice. I love the communication program at Westminster because it offers a plethora of creative skills: graphic design, film, writing, web design and much more! Not only is the program excellent, but the inspiration that fuels my creativity is constantly thriving in the Westminster environment.
Currently I’m a junior at Westminster College majoring in communication with an emphasis in multi-media with minors in Spanish and art. While attending Westminster I work as the helping hands volunteer coordinator for the school. I also participate in America-Reads as an elementary school teacher’s aide/tutor and I participate in the AmerCorps volunteer program through Westminster. Outside of Westminster I work as a photographer and event coordinating assistant at a local event company.
I grew up in a small valley in the mountains called Heber City located in Utah. Fresh air and constant physical activity are an avid part of my existence. My freshman year I played for the Westminster women’s lacrosse team and had a great learning experience! I also enjoy soccer, hiking, gymnastics, running, swimming and snowboarding. There is no way I could leave the abundance of outdoor physical activities that the state has to offer.
Traveling and experiencing different cultures is a major goal of mine. I was able to transfer my scholarship to go study abroad in Costa Rica for a semester, which remains one of the best experiences of my life. This May term I’m going to India and getting credit to volunteer and hike in the Himalayas! Next year I’m going on the China May term trip. My goal is to travel to a new country once or twice every two years and so far Westminster has made those goals very achievable.
From the diversity of fall leaves to the lilac scented summer breeze there’s no other location that can beat Westminster College!
