Everybody has a story. Study history.

Why Study History at Westminster?

History is stories about the human past that we tell ourselves to help us figure out how we got where we are now. Knowledge of history is essential for understanding current events and participating fully in civic life, especially in a democratic republic. If you study History, you'll learn about the human condition and factors that have influenced human endeavor. You'll examine historical context and content, read great writings, and develop skills in critical examination, methodological analysis, research, and writing.

Academically, studying History prepares you for advanced studies in history or law school, library science, or the ministry. It can also serve as a stepping-stone to a career in business, secondary education, or government service.

The Westminster Difference:

  • Our faculty represents several complementary historical specialties and academic achievement, guaranteeing stimulating courses.
  • Many students have worked in various capacities as interns with the Utah State Historical Society, major libraries, and other organizations.
  • Many students present papers at Westminster's Undergraduate Research Fair, and several Westminster students have won prizes at the Utah regional Phi Alpha Theta conference.
