Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are preferred to minimize wait time and ensure sufficient time to meet each student's needs. Walk-ins are also welcome and will be accommodated into the next available appointment. Remember, emergencies and patients with appointments take priority.
Am I eligible for services?
If you are a current student of Westminster College you are eligible for health care services. Spouses, children and relatives of students are NOT eligible for services. Additionally, faculty and staff are NOT eligible for services. Please bring your student ID card to your appointment.
How much does it cost?
SHS charges $15.00 per visit and payment is due at the time of service. Some procedures, treatments, and lab work have an additional charge. SHS accepts multiple forms of payment (cash, check, or credit/debit card). However, health insurance is not accepted.
Who will I see?
Medical care is provided by a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). If your health care needs exceed what SHS can provide the clinician will refer you to the appropriate resource.
What services are provided?
SHS is able to provide a variety of health care services. If you have questions about services that can be provided, feel free to call the clinic at 832.2239 and ask for the Nurse Practitioner during regular business hours.
When should I see a health care provider (HCP)?
Most people associate health care with illness. Knowing when you are sick enough to see a HCP can be confusing. The following are a few of the many reasons you should see a HCP:
These are some guidelines and you may call SHS during the hours of operation if you are unsure whether to make an appointment or not.
Will SHS write a note for missed classes?
SHS will evaluate this on a case by case basis. It is highly recommended that you communicate with your professor(s) if you become ill and cannot attend class. SHS will not write a note for your illness that has resolved from previous days for missed class(es).
Can I obtain my vaccine records from years past?
SHS and Residence Life may have your vaccine records if you are currently enrolled and it was required for housing. If you have graduated, or no longer an enrolled student at Westminster, your records are kept off site and SHS will not be able to access the records for you. Please keep a hard copy of your vaccine records in a safe place for future reference.
What if I have a chronic condition requiring regular health care provider visits?
Many students have ongoing medical conditions that require frequent visits to a health care provider. SHS can asssist the student for many of these conditions. Please call and speak to the Nurse Practitioner for any questions or concerns you have regarding your specific needs/condition.
