Class Notes: Cooper Henderson ('11)
Cooper Henderson Represents US in Russia
Cooper Henderson (’11) is using the education, leadership skills, and entrepreneurial spirit he developed
at Westminster to explore the world and help prepare the next generation of leaders
to navigate the complex, interconnected global community. After graduating from Westminster’s
Honors program with a degree in economics, Cooper co-founded CAREEL, the Center for
American-Russian Engagement of Emerging Leaders. He was able to secure more than $1
million in funding from the Russian government to provide exchange program grants
for 136 young leaders from the top universities in the United States to visit Moscow.
Through his experience with CAREEL, Cooper was able to represent the United States
as one of five young leaders at the G20’s youth policy forum. “My experience at the
G20 in Russia reinforced my belief that Westminster gave me a world-class education.
I relied heavily on the critical thinking and communication skills I developed in
the Honors program at Westminster.”
Cooper recently moved back to the United States after living in Argentina teaching
English as a foreign language. “My favorite things about teaching are the chance to
work with students from all over the world and the location independence of this career
path. In the past year, I have tutored hundreds of students from over 20 different
countries, and I am always amazed by how much I learn from my students. Also, the
ability to live and work in so many different places around the world is an incredible
way for me to travel and develop my own foreign language skills.”
