Class Notes: Temma Martin ('93, MPC '96)
The Best Friend “Best Friends” Could Ever Have
Temma Martin (’93, MPC ’96) is the public relations specialist for the Best Friends Animal Society of Salt Lake,
where she has worked for the past five years. In Utah, Best Friends leads the No-Kill
Utah Coalition, which is focused on ending the killing of dogs and cats in Utah shelters
by 2019. She says, “I’m honored to work for an amazing organization that is making
a difference in the animal world. I love being able to do silly things like create
visuals for media involving pit bull terriers in tutus and more serious work about
our legislative efforts to end dog breed discrimination, eradicate puppy mills, and
find humane solutions for community cats.”
During her Westminster days, Temma served on the Forum newspaper staff. She says her two most memorable professors at Westminster were Fred
Fogo and Helen Hodgson. “I still think about all that I learned from them, and how
lucky I am that I have a career using the skills I gained at Westminster.” Prior to
Best Friends, Temma was the education director for the Humane Society of Utah and
later, the media specialist for Salt Lake County Animal Services. “I’ve just been
lucky enough to have been doing public relations and helping animals since I graduated
from Westminster,” she says. “And personally, I’ve adopted three cats and three dogs—and
I have a human kid who is turning five.”
