Adventure Has No Boundaries

Muller

Brian Muller uses skills acquired at Westminster around the globe

by Lexie Banks (’12, MACL ’15)

Brian Muller (’10) is living his dream: during the winter he’s a full-time professional ski patroller at Snowbird, and during the summer, he’s a mountain guide. A 2010 graduate of Westminster’s marketing program, Brian participated in the Winter at Westminster program. This allowed him to attend Westminster for a semester to take classes while participating in outdoor activities such as backcountry skiing, yurt camping, biathlon, and more.

Brian loved being at Westminster so much that he transferred and attended full-time after his semester in the Winter at Westminster program. Outdoor opportunities integrated into the curriculum developed his curiosity inside and outside the classroom.

Participating as a resident advisor developed his leadership skills, and he felt empowered to take initiative in stressful or uncomfortable situations, while advancing his knowledge of program development. On top of that, Brian said his many amazing professors made his coursework engaging and applicable to his long-term success.

Since graduating, Brian’s career has taken him to Alaska, North Cascades National Park, Nepal, Africa, and beyond.

“The most rewarding aspect of my career is taking people to places they have always dreamt of, keeping them safe, and having a good time,” Brian said. “It has given me the ability to travel the world a bit and work in a variety of terrain, whether skiing, on foot on glaciers, or even on rock.”

His next destination? Who knows—as long as he has the opportunity to hone his rock-climbing skills before winter.

“The fall is usually a bit of a lull in the guiding world,” he said. “A trip to Thailand or somewhere else in Southeast Asia can’t be ruled out!”
