Money 202 Camp — Economics: The Science of Decision Making

2023 Camp Information

Money 101 will not be held this year.

About Money 202 Camp

Money 202 Camp is hosted by Westminster University’s Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business and the Center for Financial Wellness. This camp is designed for youth who already have a handle on financial literacy basics but who want to delve more deeply into select money and finance topics.

This camp helps youth learn the economic underpinnings of our financial society, leading them to an understanding of economics as a science of decision making and how it forms the basis for accounting and finance in the real world. Youth participate in assignments and projects to help them see how they fit into markets and what market forces result in different levels of lifetime income and wealth.

Concepts Covered

  • Principles of scarcity, supply, and demand.
  • The roles of markets, central banks, consumers, and firms, and how each act and react to organic and external influences.

Format

Money 101 is being offered in both live, virtual AND live, in-person formats for 2022.  Each camp session includes five, half-day sessions aiming to simplify the more complex concepts of adulting. A mix of activities, breakout sessions, assignments, and projects are used by the Westminster faculty and knowledgeable undergraduate students leading the sessions. Youth are challenged to engage with camp faculty, guest speakers, and each other.

As youth progress through assigned projects, they earn points towards rewards (gift cards, swag, and recognition) offered at the end of each camp session.

Sessions are designed to be adaptive and highly participative and will expose students to both the Gore School of Business and Westminster College.

Enrollment Limit

Enrollment is limited to 25 students per camp session. This offers the most engaging and personalized experience, keeping the ratio to about 10–12 youth per faculty member.

Cost

The cost of the camp is $175. This includes the cost of all necessary materials, an online financial calculator, camp t-shirt, and Westminster merchandise (including a t-shirt, book bag, and more).
