About Money 203 Camp
Money 203 Camp is hosted by Westminster College’s Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business and the Center for Financial Wellness. This camp is designed for youth who already have a handle on financial literacy basics but who want to delve more deeply into select money and finance topics.
This camp walks youth through the process of owning and financing real estate, whether for personal use or as an investment, giving them a new appreciation of the property they live in and an understanding of what they’ll need to do to have their own one day. Youth will work with faculty and real estate and mortgage professionals to select, make a purchase offer and counteroffer, and finance a piece of residential real estate currently for sale in the Salt Lake Valley. This will include taking virtual tours of multiple properties and going through the mortgage and closing processes.
- How to shop for and select real estate
- How residential and commercial real estate are valued
- The costs associated with buying, selling, and financing
- The factors effecting changes in real estate values
- How to navigate the complex world of mortgage financing
Five virtual, half-day sessions aim to simplify the more complex concepts of adulting. A mix of live, remote instruction, activities, breakout sessions, assignments, and projects are used by the Westminster faculty and knowledgeable undergraduate students leading the sessions. Youth are challenged to engage with camp faculty, guest speakers, and each other.
As youth progress through assigned projects, they earn points towards rewards (gift cards [Amazon, iTunes, Starbucks], swag, and recognition) offered at the end of each camp session.
Sessions are designed to be adaptive and highly participative and will expose students to both the Gore School of Business and Westminster College.
Enrollment is limited to 25 students per camp session. This offers the most engaging and personalized experience, keeping the ratio to about 10–12 youth per faculty member.
The cost of the camp is $150 if you sign up early by May 2. After May 2, the cost of the camp will go up to $175. This includes the cost of all necessary materials, an online financial calculator, camp t-shirt, and Westminster merchandise (including a t-shirt, book bag, and more).
A discount is available for households of Westminster College faculty, and staff. Email email@example.com to receive the discount code to use during registration.
