Meet the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team
Tamara N. Stevenson, EdD
Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer
Dr. Stevenson oversees the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and serves as the Chief Diversity Officer for Westminster College. In her role, she provides direct supervision of DEI and leadership on Westminster’s strategy for strengthening and sustaining diversity, advancing equity, and cultivating inclusion across the institution. She most recently served as a professor in the Communication Program since joining the College in 2012.
As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Stevenson’s research explores the internal and external communicative (rhetorical) practices of educational institutions as organizational sites of power through a critical race lens. Her research has been recognized by the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor’s National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) with a 2009 “Emerging Diversity Scholar Award” given to acknowledge her “as a promising contributor to research, practice, or teaching related to diversity”.
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan and a first-generation college student, Dr. Stevenson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s degree in organizational communication from Wayne State University. She earned a specialist of arts and doctorate in educational leadership (higher education administration) from Eastern Michigan University. She worked in corporate communication in various organizations and industries in the metropolitan Detroit area for more than a decade, including automotive, health care, and public (regional) education, along with serving as an adjunct instructor in communication and higher education administration at several public and private, two- and four-year colleges and universities.
Chris Davids, PhD
Dr. Davids currently serves as faculty fellow for diversity, equity, and inclusion—a joint appointment with the Office of the Provost and DEI. As faculty fellow for DEI, Dr. Davids develops and coordinates campus-wide diversity education opportunities for Westminster, in addition to supporting special programs within DEI, such as the Bastian Lecture Series. He previously served on the Westminster College Diversity Council and is a current member of the Bias Response Team. Locally, Dr. Davids is on the board of the Affirmative Therapist Guild of Utah; nationally, he is on the board of the Society of the Psychological Study for Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. In addition to teaching in the psychology department and providing therapy services in his private practice, Dr. Davids is a published feminist-multicultural researcher in the areas of sexual objectification, body image, sexuality, and gender. He received his MA in counseling and guidance and his PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Communications Coordinator Intern
Cathy is the communications coordinator intern for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is currently a first-year student at Westminster studying communication and the arts. She was born in Ogden, and raised in Clinton, Utah. Previously, Cathy served as both a section editor and the senior editor of Syracuse High School's yearbook staff. Cathy was a TX correspondent at the Standard Examiner from 2016 to 2018, where she illustrated articles and wrote columns about current events and controversial issues.
Lead Communications Coordinator
Ebony is a Utah native in her fourth year pursuing a customized degree in education and equity. Ebony is passionate about the work that she does in the DEI office and across campus in relation to diversity and inclusion. Outside of school and work, she is interested in activism, spoken word poetry, music, and spending time with the people close to her.
Lian was born in China and is currently a first-year student at Westminster, where she is majoring in finance and minoring in data science. She is also an administrative coordinator intern in the DEI office. Lian helps with accounting and placing orders for the office, and is very passionate about working with DEI.
