College ranked No. 20 best regional university in the West
SALT LAKE CITY -
As Utah's only private, comprehensive liberal arts college, Westminster has again earned nationwide recognition by U.S. News & World Report and is included in the 2017 "Best College" guide in the following lists: "Best Regional University - West
" (No. 20); "Great Schools, Great Prices
" (No. 14); "Best School for Vets"
(No. 11) and "A+ Schools for B Students
This is the 22nd year that the college has been included in the guide.
"I'm pleased that Westminster's devoted faculty, purpose-driven academic programs and student-centered learning opportunities continue to be recognized both regionally and nationally by U.S. News," said Stephen Morgan, Westminster College president. "I'm especially proud that we continue to be highlighted as a best value school, which recognizes the significant investment we put into our students to help them lead a successful and meaningful life."
Westminster prides itself for its intimate class sizes and has a student-faculty ratio of 9:1. More than 72% of its classes have fewer than 20 students, so faculty members get to know their students personally and take a deep interest in their success. The college's most popular majors include business, management, marketing and nursing.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on several key measures of quality including: assessment of excellence (22.5%), graduation and retention rates (22.5%), faculty resources (20%), student selectivity (12.5%), financial resources (10%), graduate rate performance (7.5%) and alumni giving (5%). Colleges are then ranked in their specific category (National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges) by their total weighted score.
