More than 465 freshmen to begin classes today
SALT LAKE CITY -
Westminster welcomes the Class of 2017 as more than 465 students begin their first day of classes today. Hailing from more than 15 countries and 33 states, this year's freshman class comes from as far as Kazakhstan to as close as Salt Lake.
Several new programs will be introduced this year, including the college's new RN to BS program (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing), Geology major, Master of Strategic Communication and the Outdoor Leadership Minor.
"Students from around the country and world chose Westminster for the opportunity to be closely connected to faculty in an active environment that will prepare them for success, said Liz Key, interim VP of Enrollment. "We're thrilled to introduce our Master of Strategic Communication and the RN to BS programs which bring the learning relationships to a new level."
The intimate class sizes and proximity to the great outdoors were both key attractors for this year's freshman class. Tyler Brice, a 19-year-old freshman from Seattle, noted the college's new Outdoor Recreation Minor and academics were also a big draw.
"I'm super stoked about it," he said. "I came to Westminster because of the outdoor activities, small student body and class size.the area is a great draw and the academics make Westminster a great fit for me."
