The USHCC advocates for America's 3.2 million Hispanic-owned businesses and will hold its national convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, this September.   "Westminster is honored to have Mr. Palomarez as its commencement speaker," said Westminster president, Dr. Brian Levin-Stankevich. "Westminster students graduate ready to take on lives of success and meaning. Mr. Palomarez's commitment to hard work, perseverance and support for leadership opportunities for Latino youth will be an exciting model for our graduates."   The largest number of degrees will be awarded in the areas of nursing, psychology, business administration, public health and finance.   Graduating senior, Clara Jane Hallar, will be this year's student speaker. She will receive a bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in anthropology.   Commencement Speaker: The commencement speaker is Javier Palomarez, President and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Palomarez grew up in South Texas and worked as a migrant farm worker through his early years. He received a degree in finance from the University of Texas-Pan American. He will receive a Doctor of Commercial Science degree at the commencement ceremony.   Honorary Degree Recipients: Westminster professor emeritus Fred Fogo and Westminster Board of Trustee member Robert Frankenberg will also receive honorary Doctoral degrees.
  • Professor Fred Fogo taught for 23 years in Westminster's communication program. He is the author of three books on the sixties counterculture and one of Westminster's most respected and beloved teachers. Fogo was born and raised in the rough, blue-collar steel mill city of Gary, Indiana. He took a year off of his undergraduate studies at Wabash College to work odd jobs. Young Fred became an apprentice ironworker at a steel plant and toyed with staying on. But his blue-collar mentors, who worked hard and took pride in what they did, told him to go back to college. Fogo's passion for learning and teaching earned him multiple degrees and the admiration of more than two decades of Westminster Griffins. Fogo will receive a Doctor of Communication degree.
  • Robert Frankenberg is as much a legend on Westminster's campus as he is in the high-tech industry. When Frankenberg was the Chairman/CEO of Novell, the world's largest networking software company, he led the company through a major strategy change to focus on the network software business. He spent much of his career at Hewlett-Packard where he was a design engineer, software designer, project manager, engineering and marketing executive, general manager and eventually corporate vice president. Under his leadership, HP's personal computer business moved from 26th to 7th in the market. Frankenberg has served on the Westminster College Board of Trustees since 1997. He helped the college plan its future technology infrastructure and has advocated eportfolios, project-based learning, hybrid curricula and mentored competency-based learning. Frankenberg will receive a Doctor of Public Service degree.
