Westminster Joins 24-hr Statewide Giving Blitz "Love UT Give UT"
Media invited to campus on Mar. 22, 3 - 4 p.m. for visuals of fundraising programs.
SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster College will join hundreds of organizations on Friday, Mar. 22, 2013 for an unprecedented day of giving called "Love UT Give UT."
Love UT Give UT will bring together Utahns for 24 hours in what will be the state's biggest-ever day of giving. The Community Foundation of Utah launched this innovative online event for Utahns to support the non-profit organizations and schools that make their community special. Westminster is excited to join the effort of expanding philanthropy in the state.
Westminster cares deeply about developing the whole student. We strive to prepare students to lead lives of learning, accomplishment, and service. You can support Westminster students on Mar. 22 - just point, click and donate to any of the three Westminster Love UT Give UT projects.
Student Hardship Fund
The Westminster Student Hardship Fund helps students who experience an unexpected financial crisis, such as a hospital stay or job loss, with funding they need to stay in school. While 97% of Westminster students receive some form of financial aid, sometimes a few hundred dollars makes the difference between staying in school and having to withdraw. Read here how the fund helped Akosua Amankwatia after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan threatened her education.
Students Take Action Fund
The Take Action Fund provides students with resources to help local nonprofit organizations address the unmet needs of individuals, families, and groups in Salt Lake City. Through Westminster's Center for Civic Engagement, the Take Action Fund currently serves East High, Living Planet Aquarium, YouthCity, and Hser Ner Moo.
Organic Garden Expansion and Accessibility
Westminster's Organic Garden needs wheelchair accessibility upgrades and room to expand garden, learning, and community event space. Student interest has doubled since the garden began five years ago. Launched by student volunteers and maintained with a small budget of donated funds, it is a space for students to engage in leadership, collaboration, and teamwork while growing healthy, organic food.
