College recognized for its support to veterans and servicemembers
SALT LAKE CITY -
Westminster College announced today that it has been designated as a 2015 "Military Friendly® School" by Victory Media, a leading business that specializes in connecting military members with the civilian world.
The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.
"We are proud to be listed as a military-friendly school for our efforts to support our veterans and military students," said Dr. John Baworowsky, vice president for enrollment management and student success at Westminster. "Our student veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and they bring diverse life experiences to the classroom that we feel is vitally important to our campus community. We will continue to focus on providing support services to these students as they make their transition into our academic environment and will continue to support them through graduation."
Westminster provides a variety of services to veteran students, including: personalized academic advising for veterans; Yellow Ribbon Program benefits for students who qualify; and counseling support and services. The college also has a Westminster Military Association--a supportive network of faculty, staff, students and alumni who have all served in the military or support those who have served. Westminster is a cross-town school for the University of Utah's ROTC programs and is a supporter of the "Got Your 6" campaign that pledges to help bridge the military-civilian divide.
The methodology used for making the Military Friendly® Schools list has changed the student veteran landscape to one much more transparent, and has played a significant role over the past six years in capturing and advancing best practices to support military students across the country. The survey captures over 50 leading practices in supporting military students and is available free of charge to the more than 8,000 schools approved for Post-9/11 GI Bill funding.

The Military Friendly® Schools designation process includes extensive research and a data-driven survey of schools nationwide approved for Post-9/11 GI Bill funding. The school survey, methodology, criteria and weightings are developed with the assistance of an independent Academic Advisory Board comprised of educators from schools across the country, and are independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. The survey is administered for free and open to all post-secondary schools who wish to participate.
