Apr 21, 2015

April 21, 2015 Sixteen students to serve in the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy SALT LAKE CITY - This year 16 students at Westminster will not only graduate from the college, but will earn commissions as officers in several branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. While working on their academic degrees at Westminster, these students have participated in crosstown Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs at the University of Utah. These future officers will receive officer commissions through the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and U.S. Navy ROTC programs. Upon graduation and commissioning, these students will go on to serve in their respective branch of service. "We are extremely proud of our students who graduate and go on to serve their country," said Steve Morgan, Westminster president. "These cadets and midshipmen are the future leaders of our military and will be serving in a variety of career fields, ranging from infantry and aviation to nursing and intelligence." Similar to other college students, students in ROTC attend college but also receive leadership training through their respective ROTC programs. Students participate in regular leadership courses and leadership labs during the school year and extended training activities during the summer. Upon college graduation, the ROTC units conduct commissioning ceremonies where students officially become second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Air Force and Marines, or ensigns in the U.S. Navy. They will go on to become leaders in this nation's military with extensive responsibilities. Nationwide, ROTC graduates comprise approximately 40 percent of all active-duty officers in the Department of Defense.   The following Westminster students will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army on May 9 at 11 a.m. in the Post Theatre located on Fort Douglas and the University of Utah campus (255 Fort Douglas Blvd., Salt Lake City): Army ROTC
