Adjunct faculty (adjuncts and part-time faculty) are working professionals with advanced degrees in their field who teach part-time at Westminster. They bring practical skills as well as real world experience to the classroom. Westminster College adjunct faculty are focused on students and strive for excellence in teaching.
Adjunct faculty are supported by the individual programs and schools in which they are employed. Peer faculty provide guidance for course curriculum in content, curriculum, and pedagogy. Each school offers clerical support, copying, office supplies, and a host of other services. The Adjunct Faculty Program provides workshops, professional development, and a way to communicate with other instructors.

Adjunct Faculty should enjoy teaching and working closely with students. Applicants must have an advanced degree such as a Masters, a terminal degree in your field, or a PhD, as well as practical experience in industry, teaching, or academia.
Step 1: Prepare Your Vita
When you prepare your academic vita outline the following:
- Education - all college degrees earned, schools, dates
- Professional experience - relative full and part-time positions
- Professional organizations - memberships in professional organizations, affiliations, committees, offices, boards, etc.
- Publications - publications including articles in professional newsletters, journals, books or popular press
- Other skills - training, certifications, workshops, special skills
- Computer skills - hardware and software program proficiencies Include web development or other projects like graphics presentations or databases that were created as a result of computer skills
- Leadership qualities - activities in the community like volunteer jobs, boards, organization of events, charitable activities, etc.
- Teaching experiences - schools, professional, industrial, or volunteer teaching experiences
Step 2: Prepare Your Cover Letter
In your cover letter, please include the following:
- Course(s) you are interested in teaching - visit Westminster's course catalog and list courses you would like to teach

- It depends upon your qualifications and when openings occur. As openings occur, Program Chairs will search the Human Resources database for persons whose qualifications match the opening.
- If I don't hear from anyone does that mean Westminster College is not interested in my qualifications?
- Not necessarily: it means we currently don't have an opening. If an opening has not occurred and you still want to be on the list, please contact us to keep your information current. Don't give up. Teaching at Westminster College is worth the wait.

- What degree qualifications do I need?
- You must have an advanced degree (Masters or above) in the area within which you wish to teach.
- Do I need to have teaching experience?
- No, however it certainly helps. If you do not have experience, we encourage you to attend teaching workshops and talk with our division chair and other divisional adjunct faculty. Our students attend Westminster College because it is a teaching institution and faculty are willing to provide them with a rich learning environment. We expect Adjunct Faculty to create the same experience in their classroom. If you do not have teaching experience, you may want to include on your vita events that demonstrate your people skills, such as volunteer experiences, tutoring, organization memberships, leadership experiences, etc.

After receiving your assignment, you will be contacted to schedule your first Orientation. During the orientation you will:
- Learn about the Adjunct Faculty Program
- Meet with the Adjunct Faculty Coordinator to discuss your teaching needs
- Visit campus-wide support service offices
- Assure your email and computer accounts are functional
- Obtain your Westminster identification and library card
- Visit your classroom
- Learn about the support services offered in your school
- Learn about parking on campus, including obtaining a parking pass
All adjunct faculty new to Westminster College; should attend this orientation, offered before the beginning of the fall, spring, and summer terms. During this time you will meet with Deans; Student Services Directors; Library, Writing Center, and Faculty Technology Center Managers; and with the Adjunct Faculty Coordinator.
