Westminster College provides resources and campus services for parents all the way from the admissions process to graduation. We promote a meaningful engagement in campus life and participation by parents in our student's educational experience through programming and events. Parent Relations communicates relevant and timely information and facilitates opportunities for parent involvement and leadership through career enhancement and fundraising initiatives.

Whether you live here in Utah, or somewhere far away, we hope this site will help you stay up-to-date with campus events and feel more closely connected with your kids and the college. To subscribe to the bimonthly e-newsletters and messages for parents and families, Westminster Review magazine, and communications from the Westminster College president, please fill out our parent information form. A tradition that supports Westminster College's top priority: our children. This past fiscal year, parents contributed over a half million dollars to the college — sending a strong, collective vote of confidence in the college's mission and vision. You can designate your Parent Fund gift to any area of Westminster.

Parents of New Students

Welcome to the Westminster family! We are excited that your son or daughter decided Westminster College is the place for them. We want to do our best to prepare you for their transition to college life as well as theirs.

With this guide for new parents, we hope to ease the transition for you and your student as you prepare for their Westminster experience. Contact or call 801.832.2757 with any questions you may have.

  1. Housing assignments (with roommate info) will go out mid to late June. The Office of Residence Life will send all of the information via email so you should keep an eye on the address the school has on file for your student (given in their housing and/or admittance application).
  2. If your student has completed the admissions process, they should follow the instructions on the Undergraduate Admitted Students page to complete the next steps and get registered for classes.
  3. Share your student's new mailing address with family and friends so they can mail encouraging notes and packages during the first semester. The address: Your Student's Name, Westminster College, the building name and apt/room, 1840 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84105.
  4. Complete the Parent Information Form (above).
  5. Review information on First-Year Student and Parent Orientation. This will help you better understand where your son or daughter and you should be during their first few days on campus.
  6. Plan on attending Winter Weekend for Parents and Families in late January-February. Specific dates vary each year, so please be on the lookout!
  7. Talk to your student about responsible citizenship. You may want to cover topics like peer pressure, making friends, alcohol use, time management, relationships, honesty, plagiarism, healthy eating, and exercise. You should be getting an information flyer from the Counseling Center in June that will help with this conversation.
  8. Establish a regular communication schedule. Remind your student that parents tend to worry if their student doesn't return phone calls. As your student frames his or her own choices and decisions at this powerful transitional time in their lives, be available and listen.
  9. Develop a budget with your student. Remember to include meals and books.
  10. Encourage your student to get involved on campus, make use of campus resources, and to be open to connecting with a faculty or staff mentor. You will hear more about this at Orientation, but research shows this involvement leads to higher GPAs!
