Commencement Update for Students from the President
March 17, 2020
Dear Griffins,
I know you’re receiving multiple messages about what’s open and what’s not, how your classes will continue, and events and activities that have been cancelled. I know questions remain, and I wish I had answers to all of them.
We haven’t said much about commencement yet, but with recent pronouncements from the CDC and White House, it’s clear that we can’t do it as scheduled, on May 9. I understand the anxiety and disappointment of having to postpone this milestone. Seniors and graduate students will have earned the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and cross that stage in front of friends and family, and to showcase what they’ve learned and done through their research and creative activity. At this point, we’re still planning to celebrate your commencement together, with pride and fanfare, before summer is over. We just can’t do it on May 9. We’ll continue to provide updates regarding a commencement date and related activities throughout the coming weeks.
I’m sorry that your spring semester has been so profoundly disrupted. You’ve had a chance to experience things that make Westminster great, whether it’s the beautiful campus, concerts, events, lectures, opportunities to gather socially, practicing and performing on stage, or competing with teammates. Please know that our top priority is making sure you have the opportunity to complete your semester or degree program in a timely manner. You’re Griffins, and Westminster will continue to support you in these difficult days and weeks ahead. Stay tuned.
Take care,
Beth
