Coronavirus Guidance for Students

March 6, 2020

As you head out for Spring Break, I wanted to reach out to you before you leave to wish you a safe and fun week to rejuvenate and be prepared to take on the remainder of the semester.

With many students planning to travel for Spring Break, please keep in mind that international travel may come with additional risks, screenings, and restrictions because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Currently, Westminster recommends avoiding professional or personal travel to any country with a CDC level 3 advisory. To keep up to date on the CDC advisory, please visit the CDC website.

International travel is your decision; however, keep in mind the spread of the virus may complicate your return to the United States, even if your destination has no confirmed cases today. Further, if you come into contact with a confirmed case during your travel, you may be quarantined for 14-days. Some countries’ health systems may also become overwhelmed by the virus, limiting your options should you need care. Our recommendation is to follow the CDC advisory and research the limitations of the countries’ health care systems.

Students who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 upon returning back to the US should seek medical care and report the potential exposure to Student Health Services at or 801.832.2239.

Keep in mind that residence halls are open for current residents to stay and the dining hall is open throughout Spring Break if your plans change. (The dining hall will not be open on Friday, March 13 when the College is closed).

In case there is an outbreak on-campus or in Utah, we encourage you take home course materials in order to complete the semester remotely.

Please make healthy and responsible choices while you are away, and I look forward to hearing about your adventures when you return.
