Spring Application for Emergency Grant Funding

Dear Students,

Westminster recently received additional money from the Department of Education through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA). Similar to the CARES Act, these funds are meant to assist students financially through emergency grants. These additional funds are more commonly known as Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) II. Westminster received $948,620 in HEERF II funding which will be allocated to students during the Spring ‘21 semester.

HEERF II funds may be used for any component of a student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care. Westminster students must complete a FAFSA to be considered for HEERF II funding. Those ineligible to file a FAFSA may still apply through the online emergency grant application for non-federal funds from Westminster.

There will be 2 rounds of emergency grants through HEERF II. The first round of funding will be based on an online emergency grant application. Emergency grants are limited to $500. Those with higher expenses may submit supporting documentation to be considered for a larger amount. Similar to the last round of emergency grants, Westminster set aside institutional funds for those ineligible to complete a FAFSA as well. Emergency grant applications will be reviewed until all HEERF II funding has been spent.

The second round of funding will be based on each student’s financial need as calculated by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the 2020-2021 FAFSA. Recipients of this second round of funding will receive an additional email later this week notifying them of their eligibility.

Unlike HEERF I funds through the CARES Act, students may consent to their emergency grant being applied directly to their student account. Westminster will mail emergency grant checks to recipients unless authorization has been provided by the student to apply those funds directly to your student account.
