Computer Science Diversity Initiatives

• Westminster Teaching to Increase Diversity and Equity in STEM (TIDES)
  This project, funded by the AAC&U and the Helmsley Foundation, creates an introductory CS experience for first-year students.
• Westminster Student Success and Scholarship ("S-cubed") Program
  A program sponsored by the National Science Foundation that provides academic and financial support for students majoring in computer science, math, and physics.
• NCWIT Pacesetters Program
  Our commitment to improving retention and graduation rates for women studying computer science.
• Westminster Aspirations Scholarship
  A computer science scholarship awarded annually to an entering first-year student that was an Aspirations winner or runner-up from any state.
• Rocky Mountain Celebration of Women in Computing
  A biennial conference that encourages the career interests of women in computing.
• Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
  The world’s largest gathering of women technologists.
• ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing
  The premier venue to acknowledge, celebrate, and promote diversity in computing.
• Westminster Emerging Scholars Program for introductory computer science students
  An invitation-only class that focuses on further developing problem-solving skills that are crucial to success in computer science coursework.

Degree Planning and Class Schedules

The computer science program is tightly structured to ensure each student has mastered the skills they need to continue on to the next course. Because of this, we strongly recommend working with a computer science faculty member to plan your major or minor. Internships

Computer science majors who are in their junior or senior years are strongly encouraged to participate in the internship program. By participating in an internship, you gain valuable professional experience while earning elective credit toward your degree.

Past students have completed internships in industries including programming, software testing, and web design. Your faculty advisor and the Career Center can help you find an internship that aligns with your personal and professional interests.
