    • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended showing proof of baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0. Transcripts are only considered official when sent directly from the institutions to Westminster.
      • BS/BSN in nursing is strongly preferred. Other applicants, e.g., BS, DC, MD, BA, DDS, etc., may also apply, but you must also be an RN
      • Including a minimum 3.0 GPA in core sciences: anatomy, chemistry, microbiology, pathophysiology, physiology, and statistics.
    • Submitting a GRE score is optional. Scores of 300 cumulative and above will be considered. Test scores are only considered official when sent directly from the testing service to Westminster.
    • Minimum of 1 year of critical care experience required by time of the Sept. 30 deadline:
      • 1 year of at least 36 hours a week in the ICU is required
      • Adult Intensive Care Unit: Cardiac/Neuro/Thoracic/Shock-Trauma preferred
      • SICU, MICU, NICU/PICU experience is acceptable; applicants with experience solely in NICU/PICU may apply, but they may not be selected for an interview at the program director's discretion
    • 3 letters of recommendation from colleagues that can attest to your character and work performance. 1 letter of recommendation must be from a current or recent supervisor.
    • Current resume
    • Current RN license in good standing without any restrictions, disciplinary actions, or probationary status. Any prior nursing license restrictions need to be brought to the program director's attention at the time of application.
    • Successful completion of CCRN certification is required.

    • The following titers, no more than 3 years old: Hep B, Varicella, Measles, Mumps, Rubella
    • Physical and mental health certificate
    Additional Requirements

    An applicant of the program must be able to fulfill the job description and duties of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). A candidate for the program must have abilities and skills in the following 5 categories:

    • Observation
    • Communication
    • Motor
    • Intellectual
    • Behavioral/social

    Reasonable accommodation for persons with documented disabilities will be considered on an individual basis, but a candidate must be able to perform in an independent manner. The following skills are required, with or without accommodation:

    • Observation: Candidates must have sufficient sensory capacity to observe in the lecture hall, the laboratory, the outpatient setting, and the patient's bedside. Sensory skills adequate to perform a physical examination are required. Functional vision, hearing, and tactile sensation must be adequate to observe a patient's condition and to elicit information from computerized monitors, and through procedures regularly required in a physical examination, such as inspection, auscultation, and palpation.
    • Communication: Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings. Candidates must show evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in teams.
    • Motor: The ability to participate in basic diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers and procedures (e.g., palpation, auscultation, drawing blood, or starting intravenous lines) is required. Candidates must have sufficient motor function to execute movements reasonably required to provide care to patients, including the ability to help move or lift them. Candidates must be able to negotiate patient care environments and must be able to move between settings, such as the clinic, classroom building, and hospital. Physical stamina sufficient to complete the rigorous course of a didactic and clinical study is required. Long periods of sitting, standing, or moving are required in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences.
    • Intellectual: Candidates must be able to measure, calculate, reason, analyze, and synthesize, both in quiet environments and in areas where distractions, noise, and other stressors are present. Problem-solving, one of the critical skills demanded of CRNAs, requires all of these intellectual abilities. In addition, candidates should be able to comprehend graphic displays of physiologic data, distinguish artifacts on monitor displays, and understand three-dimensional relationships and the spatial relationships of structures. Candidates must be able to read and understand medical and nursing literature. In order to complete the degree, candidates must be able to demonstrate mastery of these skills and the ability to use them together in a timely and often critical fashion in problem-solving and patient care.
    • Behavioral and social attributes: Candidates must possess the emotional health required for full utilization of their intellectual abilities, the exercise of good judgment, and the prompt completion of all academic and patient care responsibilities. The development of mature, sensitive, and effective relationships with patients and other members of the health care team is essential. The ability to effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice, flexibility, compassion, integrity, motivation, interpersonal skills, and concern for others are all required.
    • Basic typing and computer skills are required, with knowledge of Microsoft® PowerPoint and Word strongly encouraged.

    • Statement of Academic History* (waived for applicants with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher)

    *These additional materials offer applicants the opportunity to demonstrate their academic potential and readiness for graduate-level coursework. The review committee will carefully review these materials alongside other components of the application to assess the applicant's qualifications and suitability for admission.

    • Academic Writing Sample: Applicants must provide a sample of their academic writing, typically a research paper, thesis excerpt, or essay that demonstrates their ability to engage with complex ideas, conduct scholarly research, and communicate effectively in written form. If the applicant does not have an academic writing sample to share, they may email the Office of Graduate Admissions at gradadmissions@westminsteru.edu for a writing prompt.
    • Statement of Academic History: This statement should provide context for the applicant's academic performance, including any challenges or extenuating circumstances that may have influenced their GPA. Applicants should use this opportunity to explain any fluctuations in grades, gaps in their academic record, or other relevant factors that the review committee should consider when evaluating their application.

    • Scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the past 5 years. This requirement is waived for Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner program applicants with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher.
    • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience; applicants with less than 1 year of experience may apply, but they may not be selected for an interview at the MSN-FNP Director's discretion
    • Current RN license in good standing without any restrictions, disciplinary actions, or probationary status. Any prior nursing license restrictions need to be brought to the attention of the program director at the time of application.
    • Select candidates will be invited to interview.

Westminster uses a two-part process, with an online application and admissions portal. Complete the online application on our website and finalize with your payment or fee waiver. Then, access your admissions portal to track progress and upload materials. 

You can upload materials in your admissions portal. You gain access to your admissions portal after you submit your online application and pay the fee or use the waiver.
