I'm a biochemist by training who has become a brewing scientist by choice. I study the metabolism of yeast in the context of beer fermentation. The students who drive my research present their work annually at national and international brewing science conferences, and several have decided to pursue careers in the brewing industry. When I'm not playing in the brewing science lab, I'm teaching biochemistry, cell biology, general chemistry, and occasionally a brewing science May term class.
Anything outdoors (hiking, biking, backcountry skiing), beekeeping, brewing beer. Currently, I volunteer as a member of the board of directors for the Salt Lake Bicycle Collective, which is a nonprofit whose goal is to provide bicycles to those in need for use as a sustainable transit solution.
