I am trained in economics at the level of a Ph.D. and have been teaching and conducting research in economics for many years. I am originally from Ethiopia and have also lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 10 years while completing my Ph.D. I moved to Utah in 2002 and have been working for Westminster College ever since. I did not plan to stay in one place for this many years but I now call Utah my home and it is in part due to the latitudinarian environment at the school and the elevated outdoors of Utah.
My teaching interests include econometrics and forecasting, labor economics, principles of economics, international economics, and international business. My research interests are in the areas of education policy, tax policy, income and wage dynamics, and income and wage inequalities. Outside of academics, I volunteer for service in non-profits and the refugee programs of Utah. I run and manage community organizations (community church and community mutual assistance associations) and I have served for many years as City Commissioner for Salt Lake City.
