I am originally from a small town in northeast North Dakota where my father owned a retail lumber/hardware business and did general contracting. I worked my way through college with the money I earned working in the family business during the summer and holidays. I earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota in 1976. Frustrated with the job market in North Dakota, I enlisted in the Navy's Officer Candidate School and earned a commission in June 1977. I served a three year commitment, most of it as a supply officer on an aircraft carrier. Once out of the Navy, I returned to the University of North Dakota and earned an MBA degree. Once finished, the dean of the business school offered me a full time teaching position with the caveat that they could only keep me for three years. I accepted a position at Westminster College in 1985 and have been a full time faculty member ever since then. During this time I have taught approximately 30 different subjects, delivered training to corporate executives on several topics, and did some private consulting.
I have a number of interests outside of school, including wood working, drawing, karate, cross-fit exercise, and salmon fishing in Alaska. I have visited 35 states and 17 foreign countries and still excited to see more. I have two grown daughters who live in the area. Living in Utah has been a great experience.
