About

Winner of multiple teaching awards, including the CASE/Carnegie Foundation Professor of the Year for the state of Utah, Nicholas More was born and raised in northern California. He has a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. He has led a wide array of courses in Philosophy and Honors (from the work of activist Angela Davis to the aesthetics of western music), stemming most often from a desire to further his own education. Dr. More’s scholarship concerns the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, and the interplay of philosophy and the humanities. He authored the award-winning Nietzsche’s Last Laugh (Cambridge University Press), and has published on such topics as Nietzsche’s style (in Philosophy and Literature), on the philosophy of the contest (in The International Journal of Sport and Society), and on matters of literary form in Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges. Nick’s ongoing research involves the relationship of philosophy to humor—a more fractious one than you might imagine.
