Dr. Christopher Quinn, D.M.A. Florence J. Gillmor Professor of Music Florence J. Gillmor School of Music, Director Dr. Christopher Quinn came to Westminster College in 1994 after completing a DMA in piano performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In his first year at Westminster, Dr. Quinn created an entirely new music program with a strong vision that included academic music courses, performing ensembles, and private instruction. Within a couple years, the music minor became one of the largest programs at the college. With the success came new ensembles, including the Westminster Chamber Singers. This choir has received critical acclaim for performances in the US and abroad. Every two years since 2000, the Chamber Singers have embarked on choir tours and collaborated with choirs from as far away as China and Japan. Their most recent tours have included performances at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Locally, the Westminster Chamber Singers and Community Choir have collaborated with the Utah Symphony in performances of Handel's Messiah since 2016. Dr. Quinn has enjoyed spreading the word about music at Westminster. He has formed associations and friendships with many music-loving, Westminster-connected members of the community, many of whom have made contributions so massive as to benefit the theatre, dance, and art programs in addition to the music program. To date, over 14 million dollars in donations have graced the music program. The support from numerous donors have enabled the music program to offer countless music scholarships, hire a large adjunct faculty and staff, and to dream a much bigger dream. The music department has recently become the Florence J. Gillmor School of Music with over thirty-five faculty members. The School of Music is attracting students from across the country and graduates have been accepted into the top graduate programs throughout the United States. The second building addition to the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts is scheduled to break ground this year. Gillmor Hall will provide students in the performing arts exciting new practice and performing venues and will serve as the home for the Florence J. Gillmor School of Music. Dr. Quinn received the distinguished Gore Excellence in Teaching Award in 2003; an award given to one faculty member each year by peer review. Most recently, he was honored to be named the Florence J. Gillmor Professor of Music, one of only three named positions at the college. Now in his twenty-fifth year at Westminster and 40 years of collegiate-level teaching, Dr. Quinn is excited to see his vision for a music major come to fruition and to flourish. To balance the rigors of conducting, teaching, composing and administrative duties, Dr. Quinn and his family get back to Boston as frequently as possible to visit family, enjoy great seafood, breath the ocean air, and to have frank discussions with people with very strange accents.
