About

Alex White, CMHC, joins the Westminster faculty with over ten years of experience working in therapeutic and educational settings, including wilderness, residential, and private practice. He relocated to the Wasatch in January, 2019, following a post-graduate internship in St. Petersburg, Florida, which focused on the integration of outdoor and experiential activities with traditional clinical theory and skills. His classes reflect this emphasis on kinesthetic learning, drawing on a dynamic range of approaches for sharing information. Alongside course content, he also encourages individual processing and self-reflection, inviting students to connect their own histories and experiences to those referred to in the theory and research of mental health counseling.

Outside the classroom, Alex works at the Counseling Center at the University of Utah and maintains a small private practice. As a clinician, he approaches therapy with the innate belief in the strength and insight of the individuals sitting across from him. To this end, his approach is rooted humanistic, person-centered counseling, while incorporating aspects of cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based interventions.
