Competition Overview
The annual Westminster College Opportunity Quest is a business model competition designed to encourage students to venture into the world of entrepreneurship. The competition is a great opportunity for students who have ever considered starting their own business, or who have a business concept in mind, to validate their ideas and determine if they have a real market opportunity.
Participants will work with a team of experienced entrepreneurial leaders who will mentor them through the process of writing a formal executive summary and business plan. The staff at Westminster's Center for Entrepreneurship will also be available to assist teams throughout the process with resources, recommendations, and forums with guest speakers.
$9,000 in Prize Money
The culmination of the competition will give teams an opportunity to pitch their business models to a panel of judges consisting of entrepreneurs and business leaders. Prize money will be given to the top three teams and teams can also win smaller additional awards in unique categories.
The winning team automatically becomes a semifinalist in the Utah Entrepreneurial Challenge (UEC). The UEC is a statewide competition that awards over $100,000 in cash and in-kind services each year.
Eligibility
Opportunity Quest is open to all Westminster undergraduate and graduate students regardless of their major. Non-students can participate as long as one team member is a current Westminster student. Participation in the competition is free. If you don't have a business idea, don't worry; we can pair you with other participants who are looking for dynamic team members.
The Utah Entrepreneur Challenge
The Utah Entrepreneur Challenge is a statewide business model competition that is open to any college student in Utah. Every year, the UE Challenge awards over $100,000 in cash and in-kind business services to the top finalists in the competition.
Westminster Opportunity Quest's first place team will automatically qualify for a semi-finalist position in the UE Challenge, and all Westminster Opportunity Quest participants can compete in the State competition, but are not required.
