Jazmin—class of 2018

Jazmin May
Major: Communication
Hometown: Salt Lake City, UT

Jazmin May is the first person in her family to attend college, and says that at first, her parents had a hard time understanding why she wouldn’t just attend class, then come home. “But I wanted to be involved in the whole Westminster experience,” Jazmin clarifies. “To explore who I am and to help other people learn about themselves.”

To that end, in addition to pursuing a communication degree to further her ultimate career goal of one day becoming the US Press Secretary, Jazmin participates in clubs and organizations at Westminster. Lots of them.

She’s an Admissions tour guide, the events officer for LatinX, was a first-year orientation leader, belongs to the Griffin Quest Leadership Club, and is the associate diversity chair for ASW Events.

On top of that, Jazmin is a mentor at her old high school, where she coaches low-income, first-generation college-bound kids.

“I want to be involved in the whole Westminster experience—to explore who I am and to help other people learn about themselves.”

Jazmin is in good company at Westminster, where helping others and developing a social consciousness is top of mind for most students, as well as faculty and staff. In fact, Westminster was named to the 2016 Presidential Honor Roll for Community Service.

“Westminster is a place that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Getting involved lets you learn about different people and different perspectives.”
