About the Dance Program
We offer a variety of opportunities for our students—from dancing for social change to company internships, we want to see you thrive. In our dance program, you can perform in international collaborations, develop your technique with professional mentors, and experience the benefits of the personal attention that a small liberal arts college like Westminster offers. Prepare to be a cultural leader, to enhance your digital skills, and open your eyes to a world that can be understood through dance and movement.
The Westminster dance program is intended for students who dance in their dreams. We believe dance has the power to evoke emotions, change perspectives, and alter the world. Our program includes a vigorous dance training and internships with local successful dance companies, as well as training in pedagogy, anatomy, arts administration, and much more. You’ll study not only ballet and modern dance from the Western concert dance tradition, but also a variety of other somatic and cross-cultural forms, exploring your creative voice through the use of improvisation and composition practices.
If you are interested in visiting with the program, email the admissions office (admission@westminstercollege.edu) and they will ensure that you observe a class and meet the dance faculty.

"In Sugar House, there isn’t a strong performing arts identity other than Westminster College. In our immediate community, we are going to be a place for people to go to and know that they can come here for music, theatre, and dance."
Florence J. Gillmor Hall Expansion
Florence J. Gillmor Hall, an expansion to the existing Jewett Center for the Performing Arts, will transform the experience of performing and fine arts students with enhanced classroom, rehearsal, and performance spaces. To better serve dance majors, the expansion will include:
- A new combination performance/rehearsal space, giving the dance program a permanent home on the Westminster campus and providing dance students more performance and rehearsal opportunities for student projects, such as the senior showcase concert.
- Enlarged scene and costume shops that will increase capacity for production services and teaching.
- A green room and dressing rooms for dancers and other performing artists.
- Shared creative spaces that establish a performing arts hub on campus, inviting collaboration among music, theatre arts, and dance students and faculty.
