First-Year Student Scholarships

Merit-Based Scholarships and Awards

At Westminster, your success is recognized. Your academic achievements—measured by difficulty of course work, grades, and entrance exams (ACT or SAT) along with recommendations and extracurricular activities—indicate your future success at Westminster and beyond.

When you apply and are admitted to Westminster University, you are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships. This includes international students. Students in the Bachelor of Business Administration program are not eligible for Westminster merit scholarships due to the already discounted tuition rate.

The university invests—through scholarship awards—in students who carry an excellent high school GPA; score well on the ACT or SAT; and who are hardworking, determined, open-minded, caring, and ambitious. Westminster recommends you meet with an admissions counselor, as it helps complete the picture for both the student and the university.

Annual amounts for these awards vary. These awards are renewable for students who maintain good academic standing and satisfactory academic progress. The highest-level award for which a student qualifies will supersede all previous offers.

2024–25 Award Designation Award Amount
Westminster President's Scholarship $32,000
Westminster Provost's Scholarship $28,000
Westminster Dean's Scholarship $25,000
Westminster Faculty Scholarship $20,000

External scholarships are offered by a number of agencies, and many students receive more than 1 outside scholarship. Some popular websites to use to find outside scholarships include FinAid's SmartStudent Guide to Financial Aid and Fastweb's online scholarship resource.

  • Identify what the donor is looking for. If you know what a donor is looking for, then you can tailor your application and increase your chances of being selected.
  • Be specific. Donors want to see that you fit the criteria they are looking for.
  • Be organized and neat. First impressions matter.
  • Keep track of deadlines. Submitting some applications early can benefit you.
  • Submit the application in full. Keep a copy of all application documents before you finally submit.
  • Be aware of scholarship scams. If they ask for unnecessary personal information or an application fee, they are probably not a legitimate source of funding.

Diversity Scholarships and Awards

Diversity scholarships and awards are offered by several external organizations.
