Westminster Weekend
Westminster Weekend is an annual event that gives alumni an opportunity to catch up with peers and faculty while enjoying some of what makes Westminster unique.
2020 Schedule
Westminster Weekend is going to look a little different this year. Join the Alumni Relations Office for events to connect, learn, and have some fun together virtually, all week!
Westminster Weekend .5k Challenge | Sept. 13
You can’t do a 5k in your living room or backyard, so we’re kicking off Westminster Weekend with a 0.5k Challenge! Get creative with your 500 meters by running, dancing, roller-skating, kayaking, wearing a costume—the sky's the limit. A portion of proceeds from this event will go to the Westminster Alumni Board Endowed Scholarship. On Sunday, use #WestminsterWeekend2020 with the photos and videos of your “run”.
Registration: You can register for free or register for $25 and receive a limited-edition .5k t-shirt.
Trivia Tuesday with the Committee of Recent Grads | Sept. 15, 5:30 p.m.
We’re bringing a pub trivia-style evening to you—right in the comfort of your own home. Grab a beverage and test your knowledge with the Committee of Recent Graduates. Winners of the evening will receive a prize from alumni-owned SaltFire Brewing Co.
Classes Without Quizzes with President Dobkin | Sept. 16, 5:30 p.m.
Did You See That? Understanding Political Violence Through Digital Images
Tune into this special edition of Classes Without Quizzes, hosted by President Beth Dobkin and based on one of her most popular classes, Media and Conflict, from her time as a professor. In this class, students will explore how news footage of violence is interpreted by viewers, beginning with President Dobkin's research on the use of video in the 1992 trial of highway patrol officers accused of excessive use of force in the beating of Rodney King. This trail culminated in the Los Angeles riots, during which more than 50 people died, including 10 killings by LAPD officers and National Guardsmen, and nearly 6,000 alleged looters and arsonists were arrested. President Dobkin has a PhD in rhetoric and social order.
Science at Home with Robyn Hyde | Sept. 17, 5:30 p.m.
This family-friendly event is sure to teach you a thing or two about science. Chemistry Professor and Pre-Professional Health Advisor Robyn Hyde will lead us through a science experiment, using common materials you’ll have around the house.
Wine and Paint Night with Matt Kruback | Sept. 18, 5:30 p.m.
Discover your inner artist, as Westminster art professor Matt Kruback guides us through a Bob Ross-style paint night. Invite your family or roommates!
Welcoming Westminster College Class of 2020 | Sept. 19, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Volunteer with fellow alums, staff, and faculty to welcome the class of 2020 into our community. Sign up for a 2-hour, in-person outdoor shift to welcome and cheer on the newest undergraduate and graduate alumni as they wind their way through campus in a (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime socially distant procession. Light refreshments for volunteers at the Adamson Alumni House and complimentary Westminster-branded masks will be provided.
