Westminster Athletics Holds Try Outs for New Song Leaders Team

Apr 13, 2014

SALT LAKE CITY — Westminster College is pleased to announce the addition of a Song Leaders Team to its athletic program beginning in fall 2014. Westminster College Director of Athletics Shay Wyatt announced the hiring of Nicole Vogel to lead the new startup program.

“A few years ago Westminster College students took the initiative to establish an official Dance Club, a program which had been dormant from years prior. We believe now is the time to build upon those prior efforts and implement a quality Song Leaders program for Westminster College current and future students,” Wyatt stated. “A Song Leaders program will further compliment the athletics program and institution by creating opportunities for students as well as enhance student spirit and pride. We are pleased to have Nicole Vogel join our staff and lead this new program.”

Vogel comes to Westminster College with an extensive background in dance having been trained by well-respected instructors including Mia Michaels, Janalynn Memmott, Melissa Grahael, Roxanne Dunnebiel and many others. Vogel has performed professionally for NASCAR, USANA opening and closing ceremonies, Ru Paul, 2002 Winter Olympics and Stadium of Fire. She is also a former member of the University of Utah Crimson Line.

Vogel served as the lead choreographer for On Stage Productions and her choreography has been used in events such as the USANA Convention, NASCAR opening ceremonies, Stadium of Fire and the Sean Kingston and Omarion Concert at Sandy Amphitheater. She also served as the Head Drill Team Coach at Skyline and Olympus High School. Vogel is currently the owner/operator of Premier Productions Dance Studio.

“I’ m excited to be a part of the Westminster athletic department and look forward to building a quality program that will enhance the game-day experience for students and fans”, said Vogel.

The Westminster Song Leaders Team will consist of a combination of cheer, dance and drill. Westminster Song Leaders will enhance campus spirit and pride, perform at home athletic events and assist in promotional and community efforts.

A Song Leaders tryout will be held on Thursday, May 1 at 5 p.m. MST in the Behnken Field House located in the Eccles Health, Wellness and Athletics Center on the Westminster College campus. A clinic will be held on Monday, April 28 at 1 p.m. in the Payne Dance Studio. Basic choreography will be taught with a campus tour to follow. Current, admitted or interested students are encouraged to attend.

Those unable to make the tryout will be allowed a video submission, for further details and to reserve a try-out spot please contact Nicole Vogel at 801-832-2333 or nvogel@westminstercollege.edu.
