SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster is pleased to announce The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) renewed the college’s accreditation through 2027. The commission praised Westminster for its commitment to student success and its WCore curriculum – the college’s liberal education program.

NWCCU assessed Westminster’s mission fulfillment and sustainability in a comprehensive evaluation earlier this year. Renewed accreditation considers much evidence including an institution’s self-evaluation report, a peer-evaluation report and an optional institutional response to the peer-evaluation report. Accreditation also requires an in-person visit to campus by commissioners. Westminster’s campus visit scheduled for spring 2020 coincided with a global pandemic. NWCCU wrote the following in their notification letter.

“The Commission commends Westminster College for:

1. Their resilience and graciousness in completing the accreditation visit during the COVID19 pandemic and shelter-in-place period. Westminster College conducted an excellent virtual visit that facilitated communication and collegiality under wholly unanticipated circumstances.

2. Their dedication and commitment to student success.

3. Developing the new WCore curriculum. The design process and the final product both reflect a campus-wide desire to meet student needs while capturing the nature of the innovative learning environment at Westminster.”

The commission determined Westminster is compliant with the standards, policies and eligibility requirements of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Accreditation is renewed on a seven-year cycle with Westminster’s mid-cycle review planned for 2023.
