Creating Inclusive Utah Campuses through Innovation
Oct 22, 2020
The GPS Office (Global Peace & Spirituality) on Westminster campus has received a second grant this year from the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC). This one, in conjunction with UVU, BYU, and Snow College, is to encourage faculty and staff to engage in difference along spiritual and religious worldviews to build a more welcoming campus community. Over the summer more than 80 participants signed up to read the book, “Out of Many Faiths, Religious Diversity and the American Promise” by Eboo Patel, founder of Interfaith Youth Core. This was sponsored by an IGD Grant from our campus and the earlier IFYC Courageous Pluralism grant. Many who could not participate in the virtual book group over the summer wanted to in the fall and so we now have two sessions ready to start October 1st.
October 1, 8, 15. There will be two different sessions for the book group, 12 noon, and 4 pm. Please choose a time that works best for you and let Michael Santarosa, email@example.com or Jan Saeed, firstname.lastname@example.org , know which you would like to join. We have books for those that want to participate.
October 22, 29, and November 5th. There will be a second or follow-up book group on a new book entitled; “Christian Hospitality, Muslim Immigration, in an age of fear.” You do not have to have participated in the first read to sign up for this second book read but you can do both if you like! We have 25 books to give out for this read on a first come basis!
On September 21st, at noon, the collaborators from the four campuses will give a brief introduction to the reasons and needs for increasing inclusivity of the religious and spiritual worldviews on our campuses and hope anyone who wishes to participate in the books groups might join in the virtual ½ hour presentation followed by Q & A. You don’t have to be signed up for the book groups to join this noon zoom.
We look forward to some positive community building, innovating, inclusion building conversations!
