Local Banks Support Scholarships for Students Most in Need

Seven banks donated more than $40,000 during the 2015–2015 academic year

Westminster’s five-year strategic plan outlines three foundational goals to ensure that students from all backgrounds can access a Westminster education. As a result, the college is working to raise scholarship funds for undergraduate students who are considered low income or the first in their families to attend college, and seven local banks have joined the effort: Ally Bank, Bank of the West, CIT Bank, Comenity Capital Bank, GE Capital Financial, Merrick Bank, and Pitney Bowes Bank.

“We thank these organizations for their continued support of the college, and students like sophomore Evelyn Cheung share their heartfelt gratitude: “[Scholarships] help me to stay in school and pursue my dream of becoming an elementary teacher,” she says. “I cannot explain the joy I feel when I am in a classroom full of students. A scholarship, either big or small, is a stepping stone so that I may come closer to my dream.”

We are very appreciative of these organizations’ continued support of the college, and students like Fathom Croteau give their heartfelt thanks as well: “Being a first-generation college student has been one of the most beautifully challenging experiences of my life. I have learned more about who I am and who I want to be, and I am so grateful for this experience.”

If you or your company is interested in creating a scholarship opportunity for a low-income or first-generation college student, please email Safia Keller at skeller@westminsteru.edu.
